Coach Harriet McCoy or more affectionately called, “Mama” by her students and athletes, was honored at the annual Pirate Football Banquet on February 4. Coach McCoy has been the Academic Coach for all sports at Appling County High School since 1993. She has also been on the sidelines of football games during this time performing duties as trainer, equipment manager, and sponsor of the water girls. This past weekend the Lady Pirates went 1-1 in the region 2AA Tournament. On Friday, February 18, plagued with missed free throws, the Lady Pirates lost in overtime to Tattnall County 43-48, despite 23 points from Ashley Jones. [Full Story »] 

The Appling County Recreation Department will be holding two meetings to identify and train umpires and scorekeepers for our upcoming baseball and softball seasons. There will be an organizational meeting of all those interested in umpiring held in the City Gym on Tuesday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m. [Full Story »] 

The Appling County Pirates basketball team hosted the Pierce County Bears on Friday, February 4. The Pirates came up just a little short losing 41-49. The two region 2AA games between both teams have been decided by a total of ten points with Pierce County winning 58-60 in overtime on January 28. [Full Story »]
