According to Dean Foods Company representative Liliana Esposito, last week Dean Foods Company announced that it would close its Baxley processing plant and move production to other facilities in its national network. Production at the facility, which supports the company’s PET Dairy brand, will be phased out over the next two months, with final closure expected by the end of March. [Full Story »]

On Friday, January 28, Appling County Superintendent Scarlett Copeland received notification from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) that the Appling County School System will remain on an accreditation probation status with the organization. On Tuesday, January 25, the Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce held its 63rd Annual Meeting at the Appling County Elementary Complex. The meeting was opened by 2010 Chamber President Norma Cortes. Cortes offered a warm welcome to all in attendance. She then introduced the Rev. Ronnie Rentz to give the invocation. [Full Story »]

According to Appling County Sheriff Benny DeLoach agents of the Altamaha Drug Task Force, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Savannah Regional Drug Enforcement Office and Appling County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant at 335 Ashley Road, in Baxley on January 24. As a result of the raid components of an active methamphetamine manufacturing operation were seized. Also seized was a quantity of methamphetamine. [Full Story »] 

ACHS Choral Department to present 26th Annual Dinner Theatre

The ACHS Choral Department will present its 26th Annual Dinner Theatre on Friday and Saturday evenings, February 11 and 12.The dinner will begin at 6:00 in the ACHS lunchroom. A delicious steak dinner, including a dessert bar, will be served to those who purchase a ticket for both the dinner and the show. The show, featuring our talented ACHS youth, will begin in the Fine Arts Auditorium at 7:30. Tickets can be purchased for those who wish to attend the show only. Sheriff Benny Deloach reports the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.

On January 18, answered a call to Don Hall Road in reference to a dog case. The complainant stated his/her dog was sick and was taken to a veterinarian, who stated the dog was poisoned. The dog died. [Full Story »]
