Dear Editor and Community,
“It’s a great year to be a PIRATE!” It’s certain that many share this sentiment. Making it to the final four in division 2-AA in the state playoffs is a tremendous feat. It’s been 12 years since the Pirates have had this honor. This has taken much effort on the part of the players, coaches, parents, cheerleaders, band, teachers, staff, and administration of Appling County High School. However, it cannot go unnoticed that fan and community support has been overwhelming. The support that the Pirates have experienced from local businesses, dedicated fans, and the board of education is awe-inspiring. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all who have took the time to encourage and support the Pirates, Head Coach J.T. Pollock, and the coaching staff.
High school football and South Georgia are synonymous. From the start of the season there was an excitement in the air. Appling County was stirring with anticipation of what this team would do and what the season would bring. Even when the odds were against them, the Pirates prevailed. When critics were discouraging, the Pirates prevailed. When the forecast was given and it seemed the view was dismal, the Pirates took their game to new heights. This did not come easy. Much hard work, diligent practice, persistence and positive mental attitude has proven to ensure a successful year for the Pirates.
Thank you seems inadequate to show our appreciation to you the community but know that our heartfelt thanks and gratitude are displayed. In a small town with a HUGE heart…we’ve experienced exactly what is not expected in economic hard times - SUCCESS with SUPPORT! It’s been a fun and adventurous season. We look forward to many more victorious seasons with the Pirates. For these and so many more…we are deeply grateful. A school is the heart of the community…and the community has supported the heart like good medicine. We anticipate sustained relationships with our community. It’s been said, “It takes a village to raise a child”. You have shown that this village “Appling County” has joined with us in raising and supporting our children. For these and so many more reasons, we say THANK YOU!
