The Appling County Board of Commissioners held a called meeting on Wednesday, December 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m. During the meeting the commissioners approved the purchase of a fire truck for the Fourth District Fire Department at a cost of $25,000.00. The commissioners also approved the purchase of new playground equipment to replace the current equipment at the Appling Recreation Complex for $34,810.68. Both purchases were approved unanimously.

The beer and wine license for the VFW was approved on a split vote with Commissioners Theodore Wilkerson, Jasper Tomberlin and Sarah Boatright voting in favor and Commissioners Ronnie Rentz and Charlie Leggett voting against.
Dr. Eddie Rentz was approved for reappointment to the Department of Health Board.
Information was shared about some of the future SPLOST projects that are preparing to be started in 2012.
A motion was made by Leggett, seconded by Wilkerson, to set the 2012 meeting dates as the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The motion was carried with Leggett, Wilkerson, Boatright and Rentz voting in favor and Tomberlin voting against.
The 2012 Holiday Scheduled was approved unanimously.
Information was shared by County Manager Lee Lewis about the employee handbook that has not been revised since 1995. Starting in January 2012 the current handbook will be reviewed with changes to be presented to the
commissioners.
Information was shared about increased costs associated with the county’s current health insurance coverage with more information to be shared at a later meeting.
