Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that on Feb. 15, Appling Deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a domestic in Surrency. After a suspicious vehicle had been followed, it was located on Barfield Break Road.
The driver of vehicle was Calvin Smith, age 44, of Baxley, and he was arrested and charged with DUI and driving while license suspended, aggravated battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
The passenger of the vehicle exited and had been badly assaulted.
Other incidents
On Feb. 11, answered a call to Quincey Lane in reference to a domestic. A complainant stated a subject came to her residence and they had a verbal altercation. The complainant does not want this subject to come back to her residence.
Feb. 11, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated she loaned her brother her vehicle and it was found abandoned with backside window busted out.
Feb. 12, a routine traffic stop on No. 1 North Warrick Lane led to the arrest of Gerald Morton, age 21, of Baxley. Morton was charged with possession of marijuana and a seatbelt violation.
Feb. 13, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to trespassing. The complainant stated she has put up No Trespassing signs on her property and her neighbor’s children continue to come on her property. The complainant was advised to take warrants.
Feb. 13, answered a call to Lake Chapel Church Road in reference to a theft.
The complainant stated taken from his residence was 100 ft. of four-phase 600 “v” copper wire. Investigation continues.
Feb. 14, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a child custody dispute. Father of child did not bring child back after he had visitation.
Feb. 13, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to fraudulent activity. The complainant checked his bank statement and found unknown person had used his account to make a purchase from his account. Investigation continues.
Feb. 14, answered a call to Tower Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated person entered her residence and took a gold necklace valued at $500.00.
Feb. 14, answered a call to Gardenia Circle in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated unknown person(s) had broken a window to her residence.
Feb. 15, answered a call to Howard Brannen Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. A seventy-nine year old male, Jose Guadalupe Nunez, was found unresponsive by a family member in his residence. The coroner stated Mr. Nunez appeared to have died of natural causes.
Feb. 15, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a theft. A complainant stated industrial paint equipment valued at $1,000.00 had been taken from his residence.
Feb. 15, answered a call to Clemens Lane in reference to a domestic. A complainant stated subject hit her in the back of her head with his fist. The subject had left the residence before officer arrived. The complainant was advised to see the magistrate judge if she wanted to press charges.
Feb. 15, Appling County Sheriff’s Office assisted Georgia State Patrol with an accident on Zoar Road. No injuries were reported.
Feb. 15, answered a call to Bud Miles Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated an acquaintance kicked in her front door and busted out the porch light. The subject fled before officers arrived.
Feb. 15, answered a call to County Farm Extension in reference to a two-vehicle accident. One of the injured was taken by Appling EMS to Appling Health Care.
