Thousands visited First Baptist Church and its Walk Through Bethlehem this past weekend. The church sponsors the event annually and converts an entire city block, in downtown Baxley, into a replica of the town of Bethlehem to share the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Pictured right, an angel appears to tell of the coming of Christ, and above, a tax collector sternly greets guests as they enter the city collecting a shekel from each person. The city also features an inn (good luck getting a room), live animals, a manger with Mary, Joseph and baby, vendors, Roman soldiers, a blacksmith, and much more. Hundreds of volunteers associated with the church work each year to produce Walk Through Bethlehem.
