On Tuesday, November 29, the Appling County Pirates Basketball team opened up the 2011 – 2012 season at home against border rival Bacon County.
Pirates open season with a win
The Pirates faced the Red Raiders without all their players, due to other players still playing football. The Pirates started slow and found themselves down by as many as 14 pts in the middle of the 1st quarter, but would soon close the gap. The Pirates came back to take the lead at half-time by a score of 37 – 35.
The Pirates and Raiders would see several lead changes during the third quarter, but at the end of the third the Pirates led 52 – 50.
The Pirates would begin to pull away during the fourth, but were unable to shake the Raiders totally as the Pirates won a close one by a score of 69 – 66.
High scorers for the game were: Ibn Sumner (22), Kevin Johnson (19), LeShaun Mobley (13) and Ronald Handsome (12).
The Pirates open region play at home on Tuesday, December 6 against Brantley County. Come out and support YOUR Pirates!
