With the start of a new life Robert E. Young crossed over from Earth to Glory on Nov. 14, 2011. His work on earth is finished. He will be missed by many, for he was a loved person. Robert was born May 1, 1950 in Savannah to the late Wesley Young, Jr. and Ms. Rosa. He was raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Young, Sr. Robert and the former Glenda Russell were united in holy matrimony and with this marriage came seven children.
Robert was a graduate of Savannah State University with a Master’s degree in Special Education.
He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church of Baxley, then later moved to Tampa, FL and joined St. John Progress Baptist Church. His employment consisted of Coca Cola Distribution Company, National Distribution Company and was the cleaning supervisor at the Tampa Police Department.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dora (Walter) Williams, grandson, LaRay Young and step-son, Torrance Russell.
Survivors include is devoted wife, Glenda Russell Young of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Sheba Young; sons, Robert Young, Jr. and Jason Young of Savannah, Rodricka Russell, Travis Sailem and Travis Sailem, Jr. of Tampa, FL and Tomacus Sailem of Baxley; a god daughter, Tassie Evans of Baxley; thirteen grandchildren; one sister, Shelia Black of Savannah; brothers, Herman (Regina) Young of Savannah, Stacey (Sabrina) Young of Brunswick, Wesley and Richard Young of Savannah; one brother-in-law, Troy Williams of Lithonia; sisters-in-law, Retha Artis of Baxley, Ruby Durham of Marietta and Joy (Tony) Lawton of Gainesville, FL; aunts, a very dedicated aunt who helped take care of Robert during his illness, Rosetta (David) Smith of Tampa, FL, Mary Wilkerson of Baxley, Willie Mae Russell of Albany, Jettie Baldwin of Midway, Beatrice Russell of Albany and Mattie Jean Russell of Baxley; uncles, Theodore (Inez) Young of Kingsland, Leroy (Clara) Russell and Willie Lee (Fannie) Russell, both of Baxley and Robert Russell, Jr. of Savannah. Robert is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at St. James African Missionary Episcopal Church in Baxley with the Rev. Douglas Stinson officiating. Interment followed in Baxley Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Thaddeus Russell, Herman Young, Stacy Young, DeRobertis Solomon, Greg Young and Troy Young.
Musical selections were rendered by Retha Artis and Natasha Artis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
