Barbara Sue Wheeler, 80, of Kokomo, IN, passed away at 2:56 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011 at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was born November 22, 1930 in Galveston, IN to the late Edwin Deisch and Susie (Bechdol) Deisch. On June 18, 1948 she married Jack R. Wheeler in the home of her parents. Barbara graduated from Kokomo High School in 1948. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years; then spent the next 40 years as a realtor. She belonged to the Kokomo Board of Realtors and was a member of A.B.W.A. Barbara was a member of Southside Christian Church. She loved her church and the fellowship of its congregation. She really enjoyed her Bible study group. She also enjoyed playing euchre with her friends in Euchre Club and she liked playing video games and loved to roller skate. She thoroughly enjoyed all of college basketball, especially I.U. and Purdue. Barbara was a strong supporter of WE CARE for years. She made an afghan for auction every year and knitted one hundred of pairs of mittens to be given to children. Barbara was a good wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved music of all kinds. Barbara was also known as the “Scrubbie Lady” as she made money for fundraisers at her church and money for Relay for Life at the hospital. She will be terribly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jack R. Wheeler of Kokomo; two sons, Mark (wife-Heather) Wheeler and Marty (wife-Jan) Wheeler, all of Kokomo; one daughter Valerie Sue (Mrs. Bob) Rump of Baxley; five grandchildren Josh Rump, Kyle Wheeler, Adam Wheeler, Haley Wheeler, and Abby Wheeler; also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Timothy Kent Wheeler; two brothers and one sister.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19 in Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. The Reverend Rebecca Sundquist officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo. The family received friends from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
