Baxley Police Officers answered a call to the Budget Host Inn on Nov. 5, at approximately 11:13 a.m., in reference to a request to check on a guest. Upon arrival the officers met with a relative of the guest and learned that he had arrived and was concerned over the well fair of the guest, his son. And after getting no response at the door, he asked the management to open the door to his room so he could check on his son.
Upon entering the room he discovered his son, Bryan Bullard, 25, of Baxley, was deceased. The scene was secured and the EMS was called to the scene along with the coroner’s office, the G.B.I. and the G.B.I. crime scene technicians. The coroner’s office released the body of Bullard to the Georgia Crime Lab for further forensic investigation.

The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past few weeks.
Oct. 20 at approximately 5:22 p.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the clerk who told them two females had been in the store and had removed some items without paying for them. After getting a description of the females, the officers spotted one of the females and a short foot chase ensued. The other female fled the scene in a silver Pontiac. Arrested in connection with this theft was Lazorra Ann Allen, 36, of Swainsboro, on charges of one count each of theft by shoplifting, obstruction, pills not in their original container and possession of tools to commit a crime. A lookout was posted to other units and surrounding counties for the other female.
Oct. 20 at approx. 8:32 p.m., answered a call to Fred’s in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival the officers met with the clerk who pointed the subject out. Upon officers detaining the subject and running a check that pointed the subject out. Upon officers detaining the subject and running a check on him through GCIC, discovered that he was wanted out of Spalding County. The subject Matthew Jordan Carter, 29, of Baxley, was detained, and later released to Spalding County authorities.
Oct. 23 at approx. 9:29 a.m., met with the resident at a Wright Drive address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown sometime during the night removed a three-wheeler from his residence. The three-wheeler is described as a 1986 Yamaha, model no. 225, and is black in color.
Oct. 23 at approx. 10:15 a.m., met with a resident at a Patterson Road address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown removed two dogs that he had in a fenced in area. Descriptions of the missing dogs are as follows: One is an older gray and black grimmer bulldog and the other is a gray and black wolf dog puppy.
Oct. 24 at approx. 8:52 p.m., met with a resident at an Alpine Drive address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his home and removed his electric guitar that was in a black case and it was turquoise in color.
Oct. 26 at approx. 2:58 p.m., answered a call to an Alpine Drive address in reference to an assault. On arrival the officers met with the resident who stated that a subject came to her residence and was beating on the house and the windows with a bat and threatening her and then when she confronted the subject, she was struck by the bat, along with another person who was at her home. The EMS unit was called to the scene, but neither wanted to be transported to the emergency room. Investigation led to the arrest of Sharlene Heller, 28, of Surrency, on charges of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal trespass.
Oct. 26 at approx. 7:39 p.m., met with a complainant at the police department in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that a person from a local store had called her because a subject was attempting to pass a check on her account. The complainant told them not to cash it, because she had not issued the check. Upon checking the complainant noticed more checks missing. A short investigation led to warrants being issued for the arrest of Eddie Lee Eric Dent, 35, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by taking and forgery in the first degree.
Oct. 27 at approx. 11:43 a.m., met with a complainant at Donnie Lewis Tire in reference to some stolen property. On arrival the complainant told officers that a subject had pawned an item that belonged to him and that he had not gave the subject permission to do so. Investigation led to the arrest of Eddie Lee Eric Dent, 35, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by taking along with the other warrants from the Oct. 26 incident.
Nov. 1 at approx. 4:20 p.m., met with the owner of G&S Auto in reference to a theft. On arrival the owner told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown had entered the business and removed an After Market Pioneer radio from a 1991 Chevy Silverado. Also further checking discovered that the same person(s) had attempted to hot wire the truck in efforts to steal it.
Nov. 2 at approx. 9:18 a.m., met with a complainant at the police department in reference to a theft at the Pavilion. The complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed two hearing aids from a table in his father?s room.
Nov. 2 at approx. 10:33 a.m., answered a call to the Petro in reference to a theft. The complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his wallet from his vehicle sometime while it was parked.
Nov. 5 at approx. 1:59 a.m., made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a tag light violation. As a result of the stop and a consent search, a small amount of marijuana was seized. Arrested in connection with the stop and the seizure was Ricardo Pina, 18, of Baxley, for one count tag light requirement, and a passenger, William Kicklighter, 20, also of Baxley, on charges of one count each of possession of alcohol by a person under 21 and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
Nov. 9 at approx. 11:57 a.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival management had a subject detained for taking some money. Arrested in connection with this theft was Chelsey Mathis, 19, of Baxley, on one count theft by deception.
