Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for shooting a Satilla REMC transformer located on Zoar Road. On November 4 deputies answered a call to Zoar Road, near Zoar Baptist Church, in reference to damage to property. The responding officers found that a transformer had been shot several times causing the power to go out in the community. Utility workers with Satilla stated the cost of the transformer is approximately $12,000.00. An investigation into this incident continues.
Oct. 29, answered a call to the Appling Emergency Room in reference to an unresponsive subject. The Appling EMS transported the subject from their residence on Zoar Road to the Appling Emergency Room after CPR had been started. James Wade Sweat, age 33, of Zoar Road of Hazlehurst, was pronounced deceased.
Oct. 29, answered a call to Old Surrency Road of Surrency in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown person(s) forcibly entered the building and took a window unit and a metal sink, valued at $450.00. Investigation continues.
Oct. 29, answered a call to Eula Courson Road in reference to a civil dispute. A father and a son are disputing over ownership of two gas engines.
Oct. 29, answered a call to Collins Lane in reference to an unresponsive subject. The subject took an overdose of prescription medicine belonging to someone else. The subject was transported to the Appling Emergency Room.
Oct. 29, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown person(s) had stolen copper wire from his air condition unit to a rental trailer. Investigation continues.
Oct. 29, answered a call to East Martin Street of Surrency in reference to threats. A complainant stated a subject made threats toward him and his wife. Both parties were advised if they wanted to press charges they needed to speak with the magistrate judge.
Oct. 30, answered a call to Janis Street in reference to a theft. A complainant state unknown person(s) had stolen 120 feet of gray copper wire and 60 feet of orange copper wire from under a vacant trailer that belongs to him. Investigation continues.
Oct. 30, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to threats. A complainant stated the father of her child made threats toward her and her boyfriend. The father of the child had left the residence before the officer arrived.
Oct 30, answered a call to Surrency Freewill Baptist Church of Surrency in reference to a subject soliciting money. The subject made several convincing stories that he was in need of money. The subject received money from several church members from several churches. The same incident occurred on November 6. Deputies were able to apprehend Wilbur Buckley, age 48, of Nahunta. Buckley was charged with theft by deception. Without information being passed on in a timely manner Buckley would have been able to continue his scam.
Oct. 31, answered a call to Jake Moody Road in reference to a dog attack incident. A complainant stated his neighbor’s bulldogs killed his dog. The complainant was advised of his rights to protect his property and family.
Oct. 31, answered a call to Fowler Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) broke into his residence doing damage to the door. The complainant stated nothing appeared to be missing.
Oct. 31, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a harassment incident. The complainant stated a subject continues to call her and her family and also drives reckless trying to run over her dog.
Oct. 31, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a financial fraud incident. The complainant stated unknown person cashed her personal money order. Investigation continues.
Nov. 1, answered a call to Philippi Church Road in reference to an entering auto incident. The complainant stated unknown person(s) had broken into a Chevrolet pickup she owns. The cover had been removed from steering column.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated her vehicle caught on fire and burned up before the fire department arrived.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Nail Mobley Road in reference to damage to property/domestic dispute. Complainant stated his ex-girlfriend took several items from his residence and also caused some damage to the residence.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Arbor Drive in reference to a domestic/harassment incident. The complainant stated she asked her boyfriend to move from her residence, and he continues to text and makes threats towards her.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Russell Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated when arriving to his residence all of his furniture and belongings were outside and damaged.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Blackshear Highway in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a subject had broken into the glove compartment of her vehicle, doing damage to her vehicle.
Nov. 2, answered a call to Appling Emergency Room in reference to injured persons brought in on an accident that occurred on Buckhead Road. The driver of the vehicle two was transferred to Appling Emergency Room due to complaining of back and neck pain.
Nov. 4, answered a call to Wayne Jones Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated one of his truck tires was cut while parked at his residence.
