The Appling County Pirates travelled to face the Pierce County Bears (8-2, 7-0) on Friday, November 4. The Pirates would get down early but would have their fourth quarter comeback fall a little short losing 14-21. The loss drops the Pirates record to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in Region 2AA play.
Pirates lose first game 14-21, host Thomasville in first round
The Pirates will be the second seed from the region and will host Thomasville (6-4, 4-2) at Jimmy Swain Stadium in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday, November 11.
Other region 2AA matchups have Pierce County hosting Cook County (6-4, 3-3), Tattnall County (6-4, 5-2) traveling to Brooks County (8-2, 5-1) and McIntosh County Academy (4-6, 4-3) traveling to face Fitzgerald (9-1, 6-0). All the games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

The Bears started the game receiving the kickoff and starting their drive at their own 34. They would later score on a touchdown pass to make the score, with the extra point, 0-7.
The Bears’ second touchdown of the contest would come with 36 seconds left in the second quarter to make the score 0-14 at halftime.
The Bears would score their final touchdown early in the third quarter to make the score 0-21.
The Pirates would get their first touchdown with 5:42 left in the game on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Lashune Moore to Byron Buxton to make the score, with the extra point added by Israel Jaramillo, 7-21.
The Pirates would recover the onside kick attempt and would start the drive at the Bear 46.
The Pirates would later score recovering their own fumble in the endzone to make the final score 14-21.
