City of Baxley’s SPLOST collections exceed projections
The regular meeting of the Baxley City Council was held Oct. 11. City Manager Jeff Baxley reported that the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax has exceeded the projected collections by $69,309.47 during the past Fiscal Year.
Old business
The council approved the first reading of an ordinance annexing the property of Greg Herrin, located at 190 Corey Street and establishing a residential (R-15) zone.
Mayor Steve Rigdon reported that the pavement is buckling at the railroad tracks on City Circle Road and asked the city manager to check with the Georgia Department of Transportation to see if there may be any funds available for this type project.
The mayor also reported that he had received many calls from citizens concerning the big pothole that was beside Harvey’s Supermarket. He added that most people do not know that the area is on private property. The owners were contacted. The potholes have been fixed.

Manager Jeff Baxley announced the annual Cookout at the Corner would be held at the Waterworks Park on Oct. 22 at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The manager reported that a sewer line collapsed on Park Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 8 and it has been repaired.
He announced that the jack and bore project is underway on Highway 341 West and when finished there will be sewer available in that area of town.
The old airport hanger has been removed and the city is awaiting a notice to proceed to begin on the construction of the new airport facility.
