Gertie Lee Williams, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. Mrs. Williams was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Appling County to the late Harvey and Bithie Harden Spell. She was a member of Baxley Church of God. Gertie Lee was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday-School Class and the Young at Heart; she was also the last living charter member of the Baxley Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Archie Williams and two grandchildren, Moranda V. Williams Cole and Garrett Waden Williams.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda S. Williams Anderson and husband, Charles of Baxley; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Wade and Nancy Williams and Gary Harvey Williams, all of Baxley; one sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Robert Schmid of Great Mills, MD; three grandchildren, Charles Archie (Debbie) Anderson, Jerry Ryan Williams and Ashley Renee Williams; and three great-grandchildren, Christin Lee Anderson, Kellieanne Grace Anderson and Connor James Anderson.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at Baxley Church of God with the Revs. Lamar Lee and Walter Langdon officiating. Interment followed in Omega Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ryan Williams, Allen Crawford, Darien Buckner, John Fetzek, Ed Williams and Archie Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were Senior Sunday Sunday-School Class and the Young at Heart Group of the Baxley Church of God, the staff of the Pavilion Hall-B, Dr. Teresa Cezar, the staff of Appling Medical Group and all in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Melody Underwood, the Rev. Robbie Tomberlin and the Baxley Church of God Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
