Henrea Rose Rooks Lowe died Saturday, February 5, 2011. Rose was the first born of six children born to the Rev. David Lee Rooks and the late Claudia Fulmore Rooks, and was born Oct. 22, 1945 in Baxley. She was educated in the public schools of Baxley and Columbia, S.C. She graduated from Claflin College and Fort Valley State University.
Rose taught school for 29 years reaching students in Michigan, Washington, D.C., South Carolina and Georgia. She retired from teaching in Augusta and then fully committed herself to her church, Mt. Enon Baptist Church, St. Mark United Methodist Church and for the past six years, Transformation United Methodist Church. She served in various capacities: Superintendent of the Sunday School, Worship Leader, Trustee and a member of the Administrative Council. Rose loved beautiful sacred music. Her favorite hymn was “Beams of Heaven.” Because of her vivacious and loving personality, many churches called on Rose to serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for a variety of events.
She met no stranger. The Rooks family voted her the most talkative and for having the most family spirit. Rose truly loved God and cherished her family. She was most proud of her son and her grandchildren, but for the past 22 years, Rose was like a mother to her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and even her father.
Survivors include her son, Robert Anthony Pinkney; three grandchildren, LaCheryl Paige, Rosland Ashley and Troy Ellis; her father and step-mother, the Rev. David Lee Rooks and Willa Mae Rooks; three sisters, Diane (Charles), LaVera and LaMera (H.J.); two brothers, David (Linda) and foster brother, Charles; two step-sisters and two step-brothers, eight nieces, six nephews and four grand-nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and her church family and a host of neighbors and friends.
