Dorothy “Bug” J. Carter, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 in Appling HealthCare System. She was born May 10, 1940 to the late Henry Peck Johnson and the late Tonnie Turner Johnson in Appling County and had resided here all of her life. Dorothy was a retired beautician and was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Casper Carter, a son, Dwayne “Rat” Johnson and two brothers, Henry and Howard Johnson and a sister, Betty J. Giddens.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin Edward Peace and Jennifer Pruitt of Baxley; one sister, Sue Norris of Baxley; one brother, Martin Johnson (Connie) of St. Simons; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 in the chapel of David E. Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Hutcheson officiating. Interment followed in Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Byron Carter, John Payton, Josh Giddens, Richard Herrin, Shane Griffin, Kenneth Johnson, Keith Norris and Ronald Watson.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Jennifer Norris, Justin Norris and Brian Love.
Arrangements were under the direction of David E. Miles Funeral Home.
