This past week, the varsity Lady Pirates pick up two victories against rivals Jeff Davis and Wayne County.
Headed to playoffs
Friday night, the Lady Pirates defeated Jeff Davis 51-43 after fighting back from an 18-31 halftime score. Briyanna Brantley led all scorers with 16 points, Samara Sailem added 13 points, while Ashley Jones chipped in 12 points. The Pirate defense was led by Briana Gibbs with five blocks and four steals.
Saturday night, the Lady Pirates defeated Class AAAA Wayne Co. 54-38. Leading the way for the lady pirates was McDonald’s All-American nominee Ashley Jones with 26 points 15 rebounds. Saturday marked the end of the regular season and senior night. Briana Fields, Briana Gibbs, Ashley Jones, Myeisha Joyner, Samara Sailem, and Macy Turner were honored for their commitment to the Lady Pirates program.
The Lady Pirates finished the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and 2nd in the region with a 14-4 record (guaranteeing a 3rd straight state playoff berth). They will begin region playoffs Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Brewton-Parker College with their opponent to be announced at a later time. A win Friday would place the Lady Pirates in their third straight region championship game.
