On September 5-7, members of the Appling Applause show choir met for their annual camp to prepare the music and choreography for the new school year. This Appling County High School group is composed of 40 singers and ten instrumentalists and is under the direction of Karen Davis.
Choreographer Damon Brown from Indianapolis, Indiana was on hand to teach the exciting new selections to the group. Brown has been one of the most recognizable names on America’s show choir scene for nearly 30 years. With nearly 250 Grand Championships and over 300 Best Choreography awards to his credit, Damon has been a choreographer, son g writer, clinician, and adjudicator from coast-to-coast.
This year he taught the choreography to a variety of popular musical numbers including “Carry On My Wayward Son”, made famous by the singing group Kansas; “Renegade”, made famous by the band Styx; “Come What May” from the movie Moulin Rouge; “Think” from the movie The Blues Brothers; “Can’t Get Next to You”, made famous by “The Temptations”; the Fame medley made famous by Lady Gaga; and an original song entitled “Stars” written by Damon Brown himself.
The Appling Applause Show Choir is working diligently to perfect the show for local audiences. Several performances are already scheduled for the community. If you love country music and comedy, you will not want to miss the annual HeeHaw show, which is scheduled for November 12. See a show choir member to purchase a ticket, or pay at the door. The fall show will be December 8 and will be open to the public. The annual Dinner Theater performances will be held on February 17 and 18.
For those who enjoy hits from the sixties and seventies, make sure to attend American Bandstand on April 21. In May, there will be a final spring concert.
If anyone is interested in having the entire group or a small group to perform for a banquet or special event, please contact Karen Davis at Appling County High School, 367-8610, to arrange a date and time.
