Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sept. 9, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a fraud/swindle incident. The complainant stated she had been notified that she had won a large amount of money and a 2011 Mercedes Benz. In turn the complainant had to mail money to the sweepstakes to receive her winnings. The complainant complied, but has not received any monies or the vehicle.

If you receive phone calls or mail stating you are a sweepstakes winner, that you are to send monies to receive your winnings, please contact the sheriff’s office. This also includes solicitations, please verify before sending money. If you have not entered a sweepstakes or bought a lotto ticket, you are not a winner. If monies are sent out of the United States there is no way to prosecute the case.
Sept. 9, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a theft. A complainant stated while having an Estate sale a bag full of valuable clothes was taken.
Sept. 10, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant stated she and a subject got into a verbal dispute. The subject had left the residence before officer arrived.
Sept. 10, answered a call to Jekyll Road in reference to a simple battery. The complainant stated she and a subject got into a physical altercation. The subject left the residence before officers arrived. The complainant stated she did not want to press charges.
Sept. 10, answered a call to Appling Emergency Room in reference to affray, which resulted in the arrest of Gabriel Stace Carter, 18, of Baxley. Carter was charged with disorderly conduct.
Sept. 10, answered a call to Hungry Lion in Baxley in reference to a theft of gas. The complainant stated subject got $60.00 worth of gas and did not bring wallet to pay for gas. The subject was to come back and pay for the gas and has not returned. An investigator talked with the subject and the subject is to pay for the gas.
Sept. 11, answered a call to McKinney Trailer Park in reference to a disturbance, which resulted in the arrest of Ruben Perez, 23, and Alfredo Diaz Hernandez, 39, of Baxley. Both subjects were charged with public drunkenness.
Sept. 12, answered a call to Doris Street in reference to a theft. The complainant stated taken from his residence was his 2009 Arctic Cat four-wheeler, valued at $7,000.00. The four-wheeler was entered into GCIC. Investigation continues.
Sept. 12, answered a call to Melton Chapel Church in reference to a burglary. An unknown person(s) had entered the church causing damage inside the sanctuary. Nothing appeared to be missing at time of report.
Sept. 12, officers attempting to make an arrest of a male subject on a warrant residing on Buckhead Road led to the arrest of Brandy Jane Copeland, 21, of Baxley. Copeland was arrested for obstruction. The male subject was transported to Jeff Davis County.
Sept. 12, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to horse on roadway. After several calls to this same incident, the owner of the horse was given a citation.
Sept. 12, answered a call to Baker Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a person was trying to steal his backhoe and when he approached him he jumped off and ran in the woods. The responding officers apprehended Ronnie Bryant, 36, of Baxley. Bryant was arrested and charged with two counts of theft. Also several batteries were recovered in connection with the incident.
Sept. 13, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to two burglaries. Two complainants stated unknown subject(s) had entered their residence, and took monies, jewelry and clothes. Investigation continues.
Sept. 13, answered a call to Altamaha School Road/Nails Ferry Road in reference to a vehicle fire. A complainant stated the back tire of his vehicle came off and when pulling over to the side of the roadway the grass caught fire, burning the vehicle. The fire department responded and was able to get the fire out before the vehicle was completely destroyed.
Sept. 13, answered a call to Sandy Road in reference to a stolen dog. The complainant stated someone came to his residence and stole his white bulldog, valued at $300.00.
Sept. 13, answered a call to Highway 121/Surrency in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown person(s) had broken into the residence and taken several items in the home valued over $4,000.00. Investigation continues.
Sept. 14, a complaint came to the sheriff’s office to report threats that happened on Sandy Road. The complainant stated several known subjects stopped her vehicle, made threats toward her, and tried to pull her and her passenger from the vehicle. The complainant was advised to obtain warrants from the magistrate office.
Sept. 14, answered a call to Scott Drive in reference to an unruly juvenile. A mother and a juvenile had a physical altercation. The Juvenile Authorities and DFAC’s were notified. The juvenile was turned over to a family member, per stipulations of Juvenile Officer and DFAC’s.
Sept. 15, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated residence had been broken into and appears intruder went inside home. Homeowner is to contact our office to verify if any items are missing. Investigation continues.
Sept. 15, Answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a fire. The fire was thought to be a mobile home, however upon arrival it was found to be a trash fire. Two fire trucks and firemen were dispatched. The subject who started the fire was issued a citation for burning without a permit.
