DAR Schools Program given at January meeting
The Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held their first meeting of the New Year on January 24, in the Conference Room at Baxley City Hall.
Those present were Susie Dean, Martha Dykes, Jane Strickland, Elouise Taylor, Joyce Tillman, Eloise McDowell and Marjorie Westberry.
Regent Joyce Tillman called the meeting to order, welcomed everyone, and led members in the pledges to the American and Georgia flags, the DAR Ritual with the assistance of Martha Dykes in the absence of Chaplain Joan Cauley, the American’s Creed, the Preamble to the Constitution and the DAR Pledge.
Susie Dean gave the National Defense report and read the minutes from the December meeting.
Martha Dykes gave the following Committee Reports: President General’s Project, Public Relations and DAR Magazine Advertising.
The Treasurers’ report was not given due to the absence of Treasurer Shirley Shope who was unable to attend. Donations were received for Meadow Garden and the “Love Offering.”
Discussion was held about not only helping our veterans in the Dublin Veterans Hospital but those that may be in local facilities.
Regent Tillman talked about prospective members. Mrs. Dykes informed the group that Denise Graham, Laura Ruffner, and Sarahlyn Cornett are still listed as prospective members on the DAR e-membership website.
Mrs. Westberry gave an interesting program on the DAR Schools and mentioned the trip that she went on with sisters, Martha Dykes, Ray-Carol McCall and Joan Cauley to the KDS School in Grant, Alabama, Berry College in Rome, GA and Tamassee School in Tamassee, S.C.
