The Appling County Pirates opened the regular season on Friday, August 26 against the Dodge County Indians at Jimmy Swain Stadium. The Pirates were able to get the win 20-0 and will travel to face neighboring Wayne County Yellow Jackets on Friday, September 2 with the game scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 28-28 tie with Windsor Forest.

-The Pirates first score was set up by a fumble recovery by junior Dennis Williams on the Indian 13 and ended with a two-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Lashune Moore to sophomore tight-end Devontae Wilkerson. Sophomore kicker Israel Jaramillo added the extra point to make the score 7-0.
-The Pirates next score started with another fumble recovery on the Indian 19 and would end on a 20-yard field goal by Jaramillo to make the scored 10-0.
-The Pirates would add another touchdown with a great 15-yard run by senior fullback CJ Nails to make the score, with the extra point, 17-0.
- The final score of the game would come on a 24-yard field goal by Jaramillo to make the core 20-0. The score was set up by another fumble recovery by the Pirates at the Indian 43.

The Pirated defense would hold the Indians to a total of 43 yards of offense for an average of 1.1 yards per play. The defense was led by Kody Nail with nine total tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, Jordan Vann with seven total tackles, Quincey Reed with five total tackles, one sack, Devontae Wilkerson with five total tackles, one sack, CJ Nails five total tackles, Justin Ellis four total tackles, Steve Crayton four total tackles, one sack, C.J. Alexander two total tackles, Derrix Henry two total tackles, Dennis Williams one sack, Byron Buxton one total tackle and Anthony Rayner one total tackle.
The Pirates were able to gain a total of 222 total yards on 56 plays for any average of 4.0 yards per play. Quarterback Lashune Moore was nine for 20 passing for 89 yards and one touchdown and no interceptions. The top receivers were Trey Newkirk three catches for 54 yards, Jordan Vann three catches for 37 yards and Devontae Wilkerson one catch for two yards, one touchdown. Top rushers were Lashune Moore 17 rushes for 48 yards, Donnell McMillan 11 rushes for 42 yards, CJ Nails three rushes for 15 yards, one touchdown, Devontae Wilkerson two rushes for 20 yards, Chris James two rushes for three yards and Jason Dhaliwal one rush for five yards.
