Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Aug. 11, answered a call on Laurel Court in reference to a theft. Taken was a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, gray in color. Investigation revealed location of vehicle. Alfred Johnson, 33, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking and removal or falsification of identification number on vehicle.

Aug. 12, answered a call on 341 East at the railroad in reference to a theft. Taken were some spikes, anchors and plates, that belonged to Norfolk Southern Railroad. Suspects were interviewed and case was turned over to Special Agent Norfolk Southern Railroad Police. Christopher Shon Allen, 35, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and theft by taking. Phil Allen, Jr., 36, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking, criminal trespass and probation violation.
Aug. 12,answered a call on Golden Isles West in reference to an unsupervised child. A DFACS worker stated that a six-year-old boy ran across the highway without even looking. The child was almost hit by a vehicle. The case is still under investigation by DFACS.
Aug. 12, answered a call on Brenda Kaye Yawn Road in reference to a dog case. A complainant stated that his Jack Russell went missing. The dog was later found at another residence.
Aug. 12, answered a call on Old Surrency Road in reference to criminal trespass. A complainant stated that the offender came to the residence without permission.
Aug. 12, answered a call on Graham Zoar Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated that his sister came to his mother’s residence arguing about money. The offender agreed to leave the residence.
Aug. 13, answered a call to Old Field Cemetery in reference to vandalism. A complainant stated that the flowers that were placed around a grave site were destroyed and removed from the grave.
Aug. 13, answered a call on Palmetto Circle in reference to a theft. Taken was a 50-inch Samsung TV and a small amount of money. Investigation continues.
Aug. 13, answered a call on Brandon Street in reference to a child custody incident. The complainant stated that the offender would not allow him to get the children during the regular scheduled visitation.
Aug. 14, answered a call on S. Main Street in Surrency in reference to a dog poisoning. Persons unknown came down the road throwing out hotdogs with possible temick in them.
Aug. 15, answered a call on Holmesville Road in reference to damage to a mailbox. A complainant stated that someone damaged her mailbox with a large rock.
Aug. 15, answered a call on Wayne Jones Road in reference to an unruly juvenile. Upon officer arrival, the complainant stated that his 14-year-old daughter did not want to go to school and refused to get on the school bus. DJJ worker was contacted to handle the situation.
Aug. 15, answered on MLK Avenue in reference to a theft. Taken was $300.00 worth of diesel fuel. Investigation continues.
Aug. 15, answered a call on Clyde Road in reference to a theft. Taken was an air compressor. Investigation continues.
Aug. 17, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a missing person. A husband stated his wife has been missing since the 16th of August and has a history of drug abuse. The wife was located at another residence.
Aug. 17, answered a call on Zoar Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated that some medication had been taken, as well as $611.00 in cash. Investigation continues.
Aug. 17, answered a call on Golden Isles East in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated that nothing was found to be missing.
Aug. 17, answered a call on Quincey Lane in reference to a domestic. The complainants stated that the offender came to the residence arguing and yelling. Marks were found on the victim. Arrested in connection with this incident was Travis Earl Taylor, 39, of Baxley. Warrants were secured on Taylor for aggravated assault.
Aug. 17, answered a call to Palmetto Circle in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a ten-year-old juvenile threw a rock and busted the rear window of her parked vehicle.
Aug. 17, answered a call to County Farm Extension in reference to a missing person. A complainant stated subject had been missing not heard from for several days. Investigation revealed subject was in Pierce County and appeared to be ok.
Aug. 17, a complainant from Wayne County, notified our sheriff’s office of threatening phone calls from subject in Baxley. The Wayne County Sheriff’s office sent warrants on subject to Appling County. John Thigpen, 42, of Baxley, was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Aug. 17, a routine check for a 10-13 subject at the residence on Ten Mile Road, resulted in the arrest of Mauricio Guzman, 37, of Baxley, and Francisco Guzman, 43, of Baxley. Both subjects were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.
Aug. 17, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a theft. The complainant stated her grandson took a $100.00 bill from her pocketbook.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated window to her business had been removed, and unknown person(s) entered and tried to pry open cash register. Investigation continues.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Milton Sellers Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated he saw a subject take a tire off of his utility trailer and left.
The complainant was advised he could take a warrant for subject.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Asbury Church Road in reference to gunshots. A complainant stated his neighbor was shooting firearms. No shots were heard by the responding the officer.
Aug. 18, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown person(s) made a forced entry into her residence and took an assortment of items valued at $2,700.00. Investigation continues.
Aug. 19, answered a calla to River Ridge Road in reference to a burglary. A
complainant stated taken from inside and outside of her vacant trailer were air condition parts. Possible family member is a suspect per complainant.
