Dear Editor,
I was born and raised in Baxley and from the time I can remember we’ve been asked (or told) to shop in our hometown. Like so many others, we always wanted to support our town where it could be something to be proud of.
Hometown USA
Lately, it’s hard to be proud of a town where they let price-gouging go on as a way of life. It you haven’t been out of town lately, you should become aware that it’s cheaper to go somewhere else to do your shopping.
Gas at the lowest price as of today (8-18-11) is $3.59 in Baxley. In Waycross on Sunday it was $3.39; in Douglas also Sunday it was 3.41.
So you see, along with better prices at malls and larger towns, you save even more when you gas up.
In these difficult times forget hometown USA, and take care of yourself and family. Let the people that want to take advantage of a bad economy sit holding the bag.

I am glad to see this letter as I too felt like we are being gouged, especially by the larger companies (Murphy USA and Flash Foods). The shame in all of this is that a number of the smaller stores have to purchase their gasoline from one of the previously named sources and they too are being gouged. I think it is time for our US legislators to step up and declare that gasoline is vital to our defense and eliminate all of the oil speculators who according to Bloomburg account for 80% of the rise in oil and gasoline prices.
