Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 3, answered a call to Moody Altman Road in reference to a dispute. A complainant stated a subject came to her residence making threats. The subject left the residence before the officer arrived.
Aug. 5, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Altamaha Drug Task Force in an arrest of Venis Lamar Mims, 24, of 325 Creosote Road in Baxley. Mims was charged with V.G.C.S.A./marijuana with intent to distribute.

Aug. 5, answered a call to Kingdom Hall Road in reference to harassment. A complainant stated unknown person(s) were putting untrue statements on “Facebook” about her and giving threatening messages.
Aug. 5, answered a call to Chad Claxton Road in reference to a child custody incident. A complainant stated the father of her child refused to return child to her after his visitation.
Aug. 6, answered a call to Noah Lane in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated taken from his residence was two T.V.’s and a lap top computer.
Aug. 6, answered a call to Gail Street in reference to a dog case. A complainant stated the neighbor’s dog chased his son, and he fell hurting his arm.
Aug. 7, answered a call to Thornton Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person(s) had taken some boards valued at $550.00 from his hay barn.
Aug. 6, answered a call to McClure Lane in reference to a domestic dispute. A father and a son had a confrontation. The son agreed to leave the residence.
Aug. 7, answered a call to Quail Hollow in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a subject had taken his child’s bicycle. The bicycle was located and the complainant was advised he could press charges if he chose to.
Aug. 7, a routine traffic stop on Patterson/ Sycamore Road resulted in the arrest of Steven Dewayne Pearsey, 35, of Baxley. Pearsey was charged with driving while license withdrawn, V.G.C.S.A./marijuana, V.G.C.S.A./ crack cocaine, V.G.C.S.A./powder cocaine and obstruction of an officer.
Aug. 6, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to a runaway juvenile. The mother of a fifteen-year-old female juvenile reported that the juvenile had runaway from home. The juvenile was located and brought to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and Juvenile Justice Officer was notified.
Aug. 8, answered a call to Mae Lane in reference to a theft. The complainant stated taken from his residence was a T.V., disc CD charger, speakers and a remote. A possible suspect is under investigation.
Aug. 8, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report harassment. The complainant stated untrue statements were being put on “Facebook” about her.
Aug. 8, answered a call to West River Road in reference to a theft of a vehicle. The complainant stated her nephew’s truck was stolen. An investigation revealed the location of the vehicle and it was brought to the sheriff’s office.
Aug. 8, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a missing person. The complainant stated her mother was last heard from on August 2, and was going to Atlanta. A lookout was entered on the missing person.
Aug. 8, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report financial fraud. The complainant stated unknown person(s) purchased two cell phones in her name, and she received a bill in the amount of $973.19 that wasn’t hers. After investigation it was discovered that the complainant did purchase the phones.
Aug. 9, answered a call to McClure Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a family member took a check from his checkbook, forged his name and cashed the check. The complainant was advised he could take a warrant.
Aug. 9, answered a call to Appling Emergency Room in reference to a domestic dispute where a male subject had been transported by Appling EMTs. The subject stated he was not pressing charges on his wife.
Aug. 9, answered a call to Highway 121/Surrency in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) broke into his residence and took several items of jewelry.
Aug. 9, answered a call to Central Street in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated unknown person(s) backed into her propane tank, knocked it off the blocks and damaged the copper line.
Aug. 10, answered a call to Faison Street in reference to a theft by deception. The Complainant stated a subject was to repair his vehicle. The complainant gave subject $5,000.00 to begin the work and the complainant discovered that the subject had sold his vehicle.
Complainant was advised to secure warrant for subject.
Aug. 10, answered a call on Pretty Ford Road in reference to livestock running at large. Upon officer arrival, deputies found horses running lose in the roadway. The owner of the horses was notified and the horses were detained until further notice.
Aug.10, a routine traffic stop on Zoar Road resulted in the arrest of Jeffery McKinney, 23, of Baxley. McKinney was charged with driving on suspended license. McKinney was also involved in another incident where he stole several checks and cashed them. Further investigation led to McKinney being charged with forgery and theft by taking.
Aug. 10, answered a call on Hardwick Road in reference to harassment. The complainant stated that her children were assaulted by children on the school bus.
Aug. 11, answered a call on McDaniel Road in reference to a vehicle in a ditch. The vehicle was found with no insurance and a busted windshield, and the vehicle was towed by Foster Rowland.
Aug. 11, met with a complainant at the Appling County Sheriff’s Office in reference to financial transaction fraud. The complainant stated that persons unknown had used his checking account information and made several purchases. Investigation continues.
