Oak Ridge community hit hard by burglars
According to Police Chief James Godfrey members of the Baxley Police Department were kept busy answering calls of unknown persons entering automobiles in the Oak Ridge subdivision. The calls started coming in around 2:23 a.m. in the morning of February 2 and kept coming most of the day. The following are incidents that were handled by officers of the police department.
The first calls were to some Corey Street addresses, in which several vehicles were entered and an assortment of items were removed. One vehicle entered was a 2007 Toyota Tundra where two black bags, containing approximately 400-500 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition were taken. Another was a 2007 Ford 500, where a set of keys were taken. Another one was a Ford Mustang in which a Sony Touch CD player and some loose change were taken and a Chevy pickup in which a manual was taken. Another was a Ford pickup, in which a Kodak C 183 camera, and some loose change were taken, and a Ford Edge, in which some loose change was taken. Another one was a Chevy van, a Chevy Tahoe and a Toyota Tacoma, in which some empty prescription bottles were taken. Also entered were a Chevy Lumina, a Ford pickup and a Ford Ranger.
Along with these incidents officers of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office worked plenty of calls in the same area. As of press time, one subject has been identified, Phillip Laquan Johnson, age 19, of Waycross. Warrants have been secured for his arrest, charging him with 13 counts of entering automobile in the above incidents, this does not include the ones worked by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Godfrey would like to ask that if anyone knows the whereabouts of this individual, to please contact the nearest law enforcement agency. Also as the investigation continues, there will be more arrests forthcoming.
He also would like to thank the citizens of Baxley and Appling County for their continued support of local law enforcement, which was shown during these incidents.
