Ben Weaver, 79, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Mr. Weaver was born March 11, 1932 in Appling County to the late P. B. Weaver and the late Vinie Wiggins Weaver. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and church treasurer for many years. Ben served 16 years as county commissioner of District 4 and was employed by Appling County Board of Education as a bus driver for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Carter Weaver and five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Kay and Greg Carter of Baxley; one sister, Rosa Mae Cowart of Darien; two granddaughters, Dorothy Alexis Carter and Allie Grace Carter and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Revs. Billy Gardner, Charles Carter, Rick Brown and Justin McLellan officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jesse Weaver, Carroll Weaver, Cleve Weaver, James Tomberlin, Stevie Roberson and Ronnie Hunter.
Honorary pallbearers were Appling County Bus Drivers past and present, Lewis Parker, Bill Parker, Floyd Hunter, Virgil Carter, Lucious Rogers, A.D. Garner, Scotty Weaver, Kim Weaver, Lonnie Weaver, Jr., Ricky Weaver, Randy Weaver, Kyle Weaver, Ross Weaver, Porkey Smith, Jeffrey McLellan, Mickey Bass, Roy Bass and Johnny Peacock.
Musical selections were rendered by Cheryl Weaver, Monica Dukes and Bryan Weaver.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
